Distribution

Widespread and relatively common species in England and Wales, becoming more localised in the north of England and Scotland. Recent records from 403 hectads.

Habitat and ecology

Preys upon molluscs, worms and aquatic insect larvae. Found in lakes and ponds, and occasionally in rivers and streams with marginal vegetation.

Red dots are historical (> 10 years old), black dots current (<= 10 years old).
